T-Ball Opening Day
We were up early Saturday morning in order to bring Judah to the site of the Pleasant Hill Baseball Association Opening Day Parade by 7:15AM. Putting it mildly- we were EXHAUSTED from a lousy night of sleep because of one sick child and another needy child. But it was all worth it, as we got to enjoy what felt like a throwback to old-school, small-town patriotism as we enjoyed this relic of Americana, which included the parade, the Boy Scout presentation of colors, the recital of the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of the National Anthem, all relished from the outfield grass of the nearby ballfields. After that, it was time to play ball. And that was a real hoot for us. We just loved getting to watch our oldest enjoy his first disorganized, instructional league ball game. It was such a kick for us to take part in this. It convinced us that he is well on his way to becoming a Major-League all-star! What tipped us off? His first at bat: when he made contact only with the tee on three separate swings; and then, when he fielded the ball and threw it toward first base, hitting his pitcher-coach right in the head. Yes, talent unbridled! Regardless of the ballgame of follies, it was so fun for us to watch, and we are delighted to add this to the memory bank of our sweet boy. Someday, when he graduates from high school, or for his wedding, we will pull out the video of him throwing the ball at his coach's head, and I can imagine how teary-eyed we will be, feeling the nostalgia of a moment passed.
