My mom called me this morning with news of the untimely death of sweet Florence Wilson. She read the following obituary to me. I thought it was a joke. It was not. This is the strangest obituary I have ever read. It was published in the Contra Costa Times. Read on...
FLORENCE WILSON
Florence Wilson Resident of Pleasant Hill
Florence Wilson was born in Cleveland, OH, on the first day of winter, 1918, attended school there through the years of the Depression and enrolled in the Presbyterian College in Wooster, OH. There, she had an exciting courtship ending in pregnancy and abortion, followed by a wretched marriage with another abortion. She enjoyed a second slow developing GI courtship in WWII Washington DC, followed by a Reno divorce, Carson City marriage and winter Yosemite honeymoon. Florence became mother of two, grandmother of two and great-grandmother of two. She renewed her efforts in painting but changed her direction to ceramics, in which, as one of the 'Seven Sister,' helped found the 'Diablo Studio Potters' in Lafayette. In the end, Alzheimer's erased the entire memory slate going back 60 years, except for one conversation with her father just before she left for California, in which he expressed his love and loss. She died last week on the first day of spring. From a husband who was proud and happy, Bill.
